Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Psalm 127:1
In the nursery rhyme "The House that Jack Built" it is usually a derisory term describing a poorly constructed building and the modern day church built by man fits the bill! If you were going to build a house would you use a blueprint or would you just slap it together however it seemed good to you?
This is what the modern day church has done for hundreds of years, ever since Constantine made the church a state run organization! The church birthed at Pentecost was pure and Holy to the Lord, filled with His Spirit and they had no boundaries or buildings to become trapped in! They were like a wild grapevine that spread its clusters around the world.
Today men just rent a building, fill it with chairs, put up a sign and hope someone shows up, but is that the "Divine Design" that God intended in these last days? No! Jesus was the blueprint, the very model for His glorious church, filled with power and anointed to do the work of ministry! Jesus developed His leadership to be apostles, not pastors as we do today. Apostles have the design within their hearts, imparted by Holy Spirit and not received from the dead and lifeless traditions of man!
'Who left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? In comparison with it, is it in your eyes as nothing?' Haggai 2:3
Compared to the church at Pentecost how do you see the modern day church? True, there are some fine churches, even anointed and some have become "Mega Churches" but the problem is, even though many look good to men, they are in actuality diametrically opposed to the way Jesus designed His body! The reason is, it is to be a living breathing expression of the Lord Jesus Christ and not a religious organization led by man!
The word that comes to mind for His body is "fluid," in other words an entity that flows with the Spirit as water flows from its source, our's being from God! Water that is flowing like a river or stream sometimes swirls off by itself creating an eddy or whirlpool that as it slows down begins to become stagnant. The modern day church has also become stagnant in their buildings, comfortable and content to come once a week a hear a nice message, but to venture out into the world and connect with the reality of society, it hardly ever happens!
Imagine the body of Christ as a great sailing ship traversing the vast seas of humanity. Each one of the crew have a job to do to keep the ship's rigging in order and the sails hoisted into the wind of the Spirit. The Captain, our Lord and Savior has charted our course and the Holy Spirit is our rudder guiding us through the storms of life, rescuing those who are drowning in sin. Never tied to a dock, the Lord's ship sails on towards eternity on a perpetual mission of mercy, healing the sick, casting out demons, raising the dead and spreading the message of life to the lost at sea!
"The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit." John 3:8
