"Lord, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that I may know how fragile I am. Indeed, You have made my days as hand breadths, and my age is nothing before You; certainly every man at his best state is but a vapor. Surely every man walks about like a shadow; surely they busy themselves in vain; he heaps up riches, and does not know who will gather them." Psalm 39:4-6

Several years ago I read this scripture and asked the Lord when my departure date would be and like lightning He said, "2028!" I'll be eighty years old and if the Lord Jesus doesn't come first, I'm satisfied with that being my final year.

Most probably don't want to know the date of their death because it is final, leaving no room for hope, but I am ready to meet the Lord and to be with Him throughout eternity. I don't love this world like I did when I was young, bullet-proof and un-concerned with eternal things, because I have set my mind on things above. As I approached sixty I noticed a change of mind and a slowing of the body and when I reached sixty-eight I began to realize my light was becoming visible at the end of my tunnel!

No longer could I put off the things that God was leading me to do, such as writing several books that I have neglected now that my time has been shortened or should I say, have been notified of, and eternity is in view. What would you do if you knew the time of your death, would you live any different than you do now? Would you be as concerned with retirement, savings, investments, life insurance and the like, or would you consider your eternal destination? Everyone is going to live somewhere forever, either in Heaven's glory or in Hell's torment and the choice is ours to make!

I was watching the news this week of Muhammad Ali's last days before he died, and his wife was telling of his good deeds that he was doing so that according to his Muslim religion would render him life eternal, but like millions who think good works, religion or being a good person will get them to Heaven, they are totally deceived and perishing in the darkness. The only way to eternal life in Heaven is through the only One who died, that we might live, the Lord Jesus Christ, King of all kings and Lord of all!

No matter whether you are young or old, take some time to evaluate your eternal destination, because young folks drop dead every day and many elderly become sick or dementia steals their ability to remember and they fade away without Jesus. Eternal life is closer than you think, and for many, their time has come and their end awaits them! Do you have a relationship with Jesus Christ, having surrendered your life to Him, being forgiven of your sins and washed in His blood, or are you just relying on good works and religion to save you?

If the latter is your answer I suggest you repent of your sinful life, for all have sinned against a Holy God and all need redemption to escape the fires of Hell and live in eternity with Jesus Christ, the only Savior and Door to Heaven's splendor!

For all our days have passed away in Your wrath; we finish our years like a sigh. The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Psalm 90:9,10
