Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. The First Amendment
Contrary to popular belief, the First Amendment does not mention the "Separation of Church and State." The term originated in a letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote back in 1809 to the Danbury Baptist Association who were concerned with religious freedom. In Jefferson's response he mentioned that there be no separation of church and State by building a wall between them, but it was never mentioned in the Constitution.
Concerning the Government, we of the Kingdom of God stand alone as a sovereign state under the Headship of the King of all kings and Lord of all, the Lord Jesus Christ. Although we are to respect its laws and pray for its leaders we are in no way under the supervision or intervention of the State! The true church of the Lord Jesus Christ, has no need of a non-profit status though many would never give if they didn't receive a deduction, but true followers are compelled to give generously by the Holy Spirit.
The Kingdom of God on earth is a supernatural realm inhabited by born again, Spirit filled followers of Jesus Christ, called to serve, anointed to minister and given authority to transform the world by the power of Holy Spirit. We as ambassadors, disciples and representatives are to deliver the true gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world in need of salvation and to train, equip and send them into the harvest to become fruitful and to multiply!
The spiritual landscape of the region in which we dwell cannot be transformed by voting or by political involvement and intervention, but only by the true church of Jesus Christ setting the standard of righteousness and by preaching repentance that leads to deliverance. We are to be in the world as lights and servants of the Most High and not of the world system in bondage to its lusts and pleasures! The true separation of church and state begins in a person's heart by experiencing the born again transformation of the Spirit and by becoming new creations in Christ!
This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. I Timothy 1:15-17
Your servant in Christ, Tim Laughlin
