"And I will pray to the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He might abide with you forever. "The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you." John 14:16,17

The Holy Spirit is the third person in the trinity of God, the threefold person of the all encompassing entity who has created everything that is created. The Holy Spirit is not some unseen mystical force that just hovers in the atmosphere, He is a person, the Spirit of the living God!

The Greek word that describes Holy Spirit is parakletos which means One called along side to help, also called the Helper and Comforter. The word for spirit being pneuma, translates wind or air, thus, the name spirit or ghost. The Holy Spirit, although misunderstood, even sometimes feared is the believer's greatest asset, giving us power, wisdom, gifts of the Spirit, knowledge and the supernatural ability to be New Creations in Christ. The Holy Spirit gives God the ability to dwell within us for supernatural works, spiritual warfare, or to operate in the gifts of His Spirit..

In the Old Testament the Holy Spirit came upon people in order to empower them. The prophet Samuel anointed Saul as king over all Israel and the Spirit came upon him and he prophesied. Samson was another to whom God anointed to defeat the enemies of Israel by giving him supernatural strength. Elijah and Elisha were two more examples, as were many who received the anointing of God to perform miraculous works, even raising the dead. Holy Spirit is our source of all power and anointing from God, the oil of joy and gladness, the power to overcome our enemies and the presence that forever intercedes for us revealing the will of the Most High!

Likewise the Spirit also helps us in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit makes intersession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intersession for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26,27

THE BREATH OF LIFE

So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you." And when He had said this He breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit." John 20,22

Jesus breathed the breath of life on His disciples giving them the supernatural ability to perform miraculous works of healing, deliverance and even the power to raise the dead. Once they received the anointing He sent them out in two's to preach the gospel and perform miracles.

The kingdom of God is not static as the church today has become, but a living breathing expression of the Lord Jesus Christ, constantly changing and expanding throughout the world, never meant to be penned up, the believer is assigned to go forth in power and anointing touching lives, led by Holy Spirit. The body of Christ has been given the most powerful force in the universe and we have been made stewards of that power to change a sin-ridden world, full of sickness, death and decay!

Nothing has passed away as some believe, but remains the same as it did in the days of the first disciples. The power and anointing of God is available to anyone who has been purchased as a New Creation in Christ, washed in the blood of Jesus and laid down his life to follow in the Lord's footsteps. Christ in us is our hope and the world's only hope for glory as we display the works of Jesus to a lost and dying world in need of deliverance!

But if the Spirit of Him, who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:11

YOU SHALL RECEIVE POWER

And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, "which He said, "you have heard from Me: "for John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." Acts 1:4,5

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is essential for the believer to be able to live the Christian life, perform miracles and operate in the gifts of the Spirit. Jesus told His followers who had been with Him, learning what discipleship was all about and walking out their faith on a daily basis, that they would soon receive the power to be His witnesses. Today, like little children at Christmas, those who are filled with His Spirit just amuse themselves with their gifts and never take them out of the building where they are desperately needed.

The Lord Jesus was preparing a new model when He trained the one hundred twenty sold out believers as well as the twelve apostles. The old was being done away with and the new was about to burst forth on the scene. This new paradigm was not a dead and lifeless structure like we have today, but a supernatural representation of the Lord Himself, lived out in the life of His disciples. Jesus would now live within His disciples by the power of the indwelling presence of Holy Spirit. Sounds like a science fiction movie but many never realize what the church of Jesus Christ really is and what its destiny is, to be Jesus in the earth!

One hundred twenty waiting for something promised that I doubt they understood, being in unity and of one accord, about to be empowered with the Spirit of the Creator of the entire universe. This is the first expression of what church is supposed to be, not a place to go, but a supernatural Spirit being filled with all the power, wisdom, glory and presence of God Himself, in human form! All of a sudden the sound of a tornado, a mighty rushing torrent of God's Spirit came upon the believers, filling them and transforming them as witnesses and mighty warriors destined to turn the world upside down.

"But you shall receive power (dynamite) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Acts 1:8
