"Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that you are the Lord God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again." Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. Now when the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, "The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!" I Kings 18:37-39

Elijah was one of the most powerful witnesses of God's power displayed in a man who dared to trust Him. Signs, wonders and miracles were standard operating procedures for him and nothing seemed impossible for this mighty man of God!

In the story of Elijah on Mount Carmel where he confronted the prophets of Baal and the prophets of Asherah there is a prophetic view of the future body of Christ, and the power they will possess as they receive the double portion of God's Holy anointing. Elijah is a type and shadow of the Lord Jesus Christ defeating the powers of darkness and false religion, He chooses twelve stones to build His altar and becomes the perfect sacrifice for all of mankind to receive forgiveness of sin.

Elijah begins by announcing to all the people that they should not falter between two opinions, in other words they should either follow God or continue to serve the Baals. Jesus did the same thing when He made His triumphal entrance into Jerusalem and confronted the Pharisees and they rejected Him. This story of Elijah is a powerful expression of God's power and glory poured out on His people who choose to give all to follow His Son! Next, Elijah challenges the false prophets to a duel of sorts and tells them to make a sacrifice and call out to their god and he would do the same, and the God who answered by fire would be the Most High God!

"Then you call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord; and the God who answers by fire, He is God." So all the people answered and said, "It is well spoken." I Kings 18:24

AN ALTAR OF LIVING STONES

Then Elijah said to all the people, "Come near to me." So all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down. And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the the word of the Lord had come, saying, "Israel shall be your name." I Kings 18:30,31

This prophetic view of the church to come was displayed in the repairing of the altar of the Lord, the place of sacrifice, in which he took twelve stones symbolizing the twelve apostles who would become the divine government of God. Twelve is the number of God's government, not a hierarchical body of clergy but an apostolic force of intercessors to war with the powers of darkness in prayer and to build a spiritual foundation.

Apostles are the master builders of the church, without which, there will always be a man-centered structure that cannot contain the fire of God's Spirit. The modern day church is a carbon copy of the old priesthood  that Jesus destroyed when He died on the cross. Elijah arranged the twelve stones, placed the wood on the altar, prepared the sacrifice, a type of Jesus yet to come and then poured twelve water pots of water on the sacrifice, the wood and the stones until it was drenched. The water, symbolizing purification was poured out on the entire altar until it filled the trench that was dug to contain it.

The prophets of Baal and Asherah cried and yelped all day around their sacrifice but to no avail, even cutting themselves as was their custom, but no answer from their god. Then Elijah called out to the Most High and fire fell from Heaven and consumed the sacrifice, the wood and licked up the water, scorching the stones that symbolized the apostles being filled with the Holy Spirit. Elijah then killed all the false prophets also symbolizing the destruction and victory over the powers of darkness.

Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, "The Lord, He is God! The Lord He is God!" I Kings 18:39

THE DOUBLE PORTION ANOINTING

So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him. I Kings 19:19

Elisha is a type of the church of the last days, anointed by Elijah with a double portion of his Spirit and as we have also received of the Holy Spirit, Jesus said we would do even greater works than He because He ascended to the Father. The twelve oxen symbolized the plowing of the ground of the heart with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ by the apostles yet to come in the future.

When Elisha received the mantle of Elijah he immediately slaughtered his oxen and burned his livelihood, symbolizing his receiving of the sacrifice of the blood of Christ, yet to come, and his willingness to follow the Lord in ministry. Just as we are born again, washed in the Savior's blood, we sacrifice our lives to follow the Lord in obedience to His call. The church of the double portion anointing will again arise from the ashes of man-centered religion and dead works to follow Jesus again by coming out of these dead and lifeless tombs, led by deceived and selfish men who are standing in the very headship of Christ!

We are the holy priesthood of God, called out to overcome the world, flesh and the devil. If you feel a stirring in your spirit about the condition of your spiritual life and are tired of trying to fit in a dead religious system led by men and not the Holy Spirit, then ask God to set you free from the bonds of an antiquated religious system that Jesus put an end to on the cross. Receive your destiny, and heed the call of Christ to be His ambassador to a lost and dying world in need of the "Double portion anointing!"

And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?" Elisha said, "Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me." So he said, "You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so." Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into Heaven. "But and hour is coming and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him." John 4:23

In order for one to worship in spirit and truth, he must be born of the Spirit or he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews, a Pharisee, well versed in the law and the prophets and in the traditions of the elders came to Jesus at night and acknowledged Him as a teacher sent from God when Jesus said to him, "Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Nicodemus responded by asking Him how a man could be born twice, or how he could enter a second time into his mother's womb. Jesus told him that unless he was born of water and the Spirit, he could not enter the kingdom of God. Then He proceeded to tell him that one must be born of the flesh and then be born from above or of the Spirit in order to become a spiritual being. This is why we, as born again believers differ from those who try and worship in the flesh.

The Jews, Nicodemus included worshiped God in the flesh through ritual, rote and tradition, sacrificing animals and making atonement for the people in the flesh through an earthly priest. Today it is no different, people go to an earthly temple, worship in the flesh, normally by music geared toward them and not God, and treat the "Senior Pastor" (not mentioned in scripture) as if he were the mediator or High Priest to lead them into the holy of hollies. Many of the things done on Sunday are just dead rituals performed in the flesh with no true spiritual value.

"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." John 4:24

CHURCH IS NO LONGER A PLACE TO GO

We have an altar  from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat. For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp. Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate. Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach. For we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come. Hebrews 13:10-14

The rituals of animal sacrifice and man-centered traditions were done away with when Jesus died upon the cross and the angels tore in two the veil of separation. We have no monuments, no buildings or cities that we can claim for our Christian heritage, only the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ received by faith to wash away our sins that saves us from eternal damnation, and the presence of the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.

With the advent of the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ came about a change in worship from a dead ritualistic form of religious service filled with tradition and dry and dusty doctrine and law, to a new spiritual entrance into the very presence of the Most High. New creations worshiping the Father in Spirit and truth ascending into His throne room on their own without the aid of a priest or mediator. The ritual of religion was dead and the relational bond of unity among brothers and sisters began to create a spiritual family forming the new spiritual body of Christ on the earth.

A new race of spiritual beings was created by the born again experience as thousands repented of their sins and gave their lives to Jesus, receiving within themselves the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. No more dusty mausoleums of death or religious artifacts that contain no life, but a new supernatural transformation of fleshly beings into spiritual ones, worshiping in the Spirit.

But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. II Corinthians 3:15-18

THE SPIRITUAL CHILDREN OF GOD

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12,13

No longer called the children of Israel but now called, the children of God, a new race of worshipers was created by the divine metamorphosis called the born again experience. God's original plan was to create a race of people that would become a part of His family here on earth, born to be fruitful and multiply and to spread across the earth with the intent of establishing His kingdom, but stopped in its tracks by a fallen angel with evil motives.

Nevertheless, God makes a way and all things truly do work together for good. Satan's plan took eons to reverse but God sent His Son, the Lord Jesus to set the captives of the world, flesh and the devil free from their bondage by the sacrifice of His own life. The world at that time was steeped in sin, rebellion and religious tradition when the Savior stepped on to the scene, like it is today with a divine plan inspired by the Father to rescue His heavenly family from their iniquities and transgressions and defeat their enemies forever!

The world as we know it is growing dark with the clouds of judgment and the gloom of sin, as the church slumbers in complacency and deception and the world runs headlong into Hell. Only those who walk in the Spirit, who have divine insight will escape what is coming upon the earth. Will you be one of them who walks the narrow path of light or will you continue to love the world and perish on the broad road of darkness? The choice is yours, the trumpets are blowing and the storms are gathering and the Spirit is calling out to those who would give all and come forth to worship the Father in Spirit and in truth!

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

"I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. "And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die." John 11:25,26

Jesus was called to the home of His friend Lazarus by his sisters, Mary and Martha and were told that their brother was ill and they asked Him to come and pray for him. By the time Jesus arrived Lazarus had been dead four days and was in the tomb.

Seeing the sisters grieving for their brother and their friends also grieving touched His heart and He wept and then asked to be taken to the tomb. Jesus then asked that the stone be rolled away and He prayed and then cried out with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!" Immediately Lazarus came forth, bound with grave clothes alive, raised from the dead. Upon his resurrection many of the Jews believed in Him and the news about Lazarus spread throughout the land.

The resurrection of the dead is the most important act of divine power recorded in scripture and without it, there can be no eternal life. Jesus is the resurrection and the life is in Him, who in turn gives that life to those who are dead in spirit. When one believes in the Lord Jesus and is washed in His blood, he is born again and resurrected into the life of the Spirit, becoming a new creation, born from above.

And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I John 5:11,12

FIRST FRUITS OF THE RESURRECTION

But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the first fruits of those who have died. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ the first fruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming. I Corinthians 15:1-23

To understand the resurrection of the dead and its significance for us, we must look at the original garden in which God's intention was to plant a race of supernatural beings on the earth. Adam being the first to be planted was seduced by Lucifer and subsequently brought death to all of mankind by his disobedience. Jesus being the last Adam was born to die for us, and to be planted in the earth through His burial, only to rise again, becoming the first fruits of the heavenly race.

Thousands were crucified under the Roman domination, but only One was resurrected from the dead to give us eternal life. When a seed is planted, it dies and because of its death it sprouts, causing many plants to be grown up, becoming a fruitful garden. So it is with Christ, He was planted so that we, His first fruits could inherit eternal life and become fruitful and multiply throughout the earth! The supernatural resurrection from the dead causes the recipient to become a new creation in Christ, washed from his sin by the blood shed on the cross, buried with Christ in baptism and then resurrected into new life.

The death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ is the most important act of mercy ever in the history of the earth in which the Son of the living God laid down His life so that we could inherit the life to come. Only through the resurrection can we receive eternal life, the supernatural metamorphosis that causes us to be transformed by the power of God into new creations in Christ!

Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. I Corinthians 15:24-26

THE LAST TRUMPET

So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being." The last Adam became a life giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. I Corinthians 15:42-46

Jesus told Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews, that in order to receive eternal life he would have to be born again. Not understanding what Jesus was saying he asked how he could be born twice and He told him that there had to be not only a physical birth but a spiritual birth in order to see the kingdom of God.

Many of the Jews had a problem believing in the resurrection of the dead and questioned Jesus as to its validity, as many do today, but without resurrection, no one will see the glorious kingdom of God! Today we live in a virtual world of unreality ruled by the senses, a world that only believes in the power of self and not in the miraculous. Even in the church of the Lord Jesus Christ, resurrection is only mentioned at Easter and then it is only something Jesus did for us, not really understanding its significance, nor its power to transform us too.

The winds of judgment are blowing as the trumpets of God are sounding that the end is near, even upon us now, but no one is taking to heart the severity of the times and they are not preparing spiritually for what is coming upon the earth. As Hell descended upon Egypt in the days of Moses with plagues, pestilence and death, so it will also come upon those of the earth who have not been born again in these last days as we approach the time of the "Last Trumpet!"

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, (resurrected) in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall all be changed. I Corinthians 15:50-52
