Jesus said to His disciples, "Children, have you any food?" They answered Him, "No." And He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." John 21:5,6
Jesus had been crucified, had risen from the dead and now appearing to His disciples who had decided to go fishing. It seems they had fished all night without catching a single fish and for commercial fishermen to come up empty handed, something was very wrong.
Frustrated and tired, not sure of their future, their Master gone, and now they couldn't even catch fish, it looked like their destiny as His disciples had simply vanished into thin air. We have all been there, things happen, our vision fails, or becomes clouded with circumstances and we begin to doubt who we are in Christ, and to what we have been called to do in this life. Then all of a sudden, Jesus calls to them from the shore and says, "Children, have you any food?" It is amazing what one word from the Lord can do to re-energize our spirits and re-align our course, and then He said to them, "Cast your net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." Jesus wasn't giving them instruction on fishing, they knew how to fish, He was giving them a course correction for their destiny, not the right hand side of the boat, but the right place to be in order to fulfill their calling as fishers of men!
These men had left all to follow Jesus, their families, their livelihood, and their homes in order to become His disciples. They were trained, equipped and would soon be commissioned to go into all the world with the gospel of salvation. I know what that is like, to leave all to follow the Lord, but there have been many times I have tried to go back into my old profession and it simply doesn't work because I am called into His service. You may be in the same boat as the disciples, the boat of indecision, frustrated, disillusioned and ready to throw in the towel, but don't. Wait on the Lord to speak to you as He did His disciples and re-position you with His peace and you will again find your place on the right side of the boat!
So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish. John 21:6
