Are You Worth Your Salt?
"You are the salt of the earth; "but if the salt loses it flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men." Matthew 5:13
In the natural realm salt is a preservative that keeps meat and other food products from decomposing and in ancient times sailors would salt their meat to keep it from spoiling. In the spiritual realm salt represents that which is in us that stops corruption from completely decomposing the planet. The very nature and character of God in us stops sin in its tracks and keeps the world in check because of the presence of the righteous!
We are the salt or preservative of the earth and our presence, or in other words, the presence of God in us keeps judgment from completely destroying the earth and its inhabitants. From Adam's fall in the garden up until now has brought the sins of the fathers down the bloodline of literally millions of people bringing with it judgment on the unforgiven but sparing the righteous who have been washed in the blood of Christ! The more sin, the more judgment, until it has blossomed in the last days into a catastrophic and apocalyptic scene of total corruption in the earth.
I fear we have lost our flavor that draws the world to Christ because of His presence in us and according to Him when it has lost its flavor it is good for nothing and ends up being thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. As the salt loses its flavor so corruption gains an advantage and continues its deadly process of decomposition. If you have ever traveled outside of America where God is still present to a third world country where the worship of demons and foreign gods exists you will know what I am talking about, there is a vast difference in the morality and prosperity of the people, not to mention the corruption and degradation that sin causes when left unchecked.
"Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? "It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. He who ears to hear let him hear!" Luke 14:34,35
YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
"You are the light of the world. A city that is set upon a hill cannot be hidden."Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house." Matthew 5:14,15
We as the people of God are the only ones on the planet who carry divine light! The light in us is the very nature and character of the Most High that illuminates the darkness of this world. I will never forget the time my parents took me to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. We were taken by elevator to the bottom and when we arrived and stood in this great cave they turned off the lights, you could have cut the darkness with a knife. The interesting fact about light is that it doesn't take much to light up a dark room, even in the cavern if someone had just lit a match the light would have dispelled the darkness.
The very light of Jesus shines out from our spirit and we are to take that light into all the world and let it shine into the darkness of a sin-sick environment ruled by the enemies of God. The corruption of sin is destroying the earth and the only hope for mankind is the light of Jesus entering their hearts and minds bringing about a change that will transform them from a dark world into the light and glory of God's presence. The church of the Lord Jesus carries the light but sadly in most cases they have hidden it in their sanctuaries and have refused to share it with the world. The lost are wandering in an endless downward spiral of sin sending them ultimately into pits of darkness and without the light that we posess there is absolutely no hope for them.
Remember the old song, "This little light of mine" it was very simple but held a firm message for believers. "I'm gonna let it shine," well are you gonna let it shine, and if not, then who? The very mission of the Lord Jesus Christ was to bring divine light into a darkened world and He was the example for us to follow. Even in America the lights are starting to dim as sin overtakes the once righteous landscape in which the preaching of the gospel was the dominate force for good that brought about the conversion of sinners. If we don't begin to shine, the darkness will completely cover the earth with a deadly veil of corruption, violence and destruction.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:4,5
THE OUTCRY OF SIN
And the Lord said, "Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grave, "I will go down and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me, and if not, I will know." Genesis 18:20,21
The outcry of sin reached the ears of the Most High and He went to investigate what He heard to see if it warranted His judgment. Upon His arrival Abraham questioned Him to see if He would destroy Sodom and Gomorrah if there were righteous people still living there and He said He would not destroy it if even ten righteous were there. That evening two angels came to Sodom and were met by Lot, the only righteous person in the city and they stayed at his house and immediately the perverse men of the city tried to molest them even after they struck them blind.
Sodom and Gomorrah was indeed a wicked and immoral city full of perversion and filth and the report that God heard was true and so judgment was justified and Lot and his family would have to be removed. Some have said if God doesn't judge America for its sin He would have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah for destroying them because it has surpassed their wickedness, but as long as their remains a remnant of righteous blood washed saints there is hope for the mercy of God to stay His hand and relent of totally destroying the land.
The world's only hope is for the people of God to be salt and light in the midst of an evil and perverse generation decomposing by the corruption of sin and rebellion towards a holy God and preaching the true gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ offering salvation and deliverance to the lost. As the stench of sin arises from the earth into the very realm of Heaven the world is in danger of divine judgment and retribution, but mercy and grace for those who would receive the Savior's love and repent of their wickedness and make Him Lord! May God have mercy on us all!
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people zealous for good works. Titus 2:11-14
