Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. James 1:13-15

Lust is a desire gone viral, or in other words it has grown into a full-blown stronghold that will grow in size as long as it is fed! Lust is not only sexual, it can be a desire for riches, power or for things such as clothing, cars, jewelry and the like, nonetheless, lust is a beast that demands our attention!

The world today is fueled by lust, its in everything we do, trying to sell us something by using our emotions and five senses to seduce us with their sensual ads. We cant even use the excuse that the devil made us do it because the devil has absolutely no power over us whatsoever, only the persuasion of tempting us with something our flesh desires!

We are not tempted with things we don't have a desire for, we are tempted with those things we have hidden in our hearts that Satan is trying to bring to the surface by his deceitful schemes. For instance, Samson had within his heart a lustful passion for women that he never dealt with, leading Satan to set him up with a temptress named Delilah who enticed him and lulled him to sleep on her lap, allowing the enemy to enslave him and ultimately caused his death! There is a sin that leads to death!

Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. I Peter 4:1,2

For to this you were called because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: "Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth." I Peter 2:21,22

To suffer in the flesh is to resist temptation and turn away from that which your flesh desires. If lust, resist, drugs, alcohol, pornography or anger, resist and as you do your flesh will suffer, but the devil will flee and if you persevere, you will be set free!

We all have to endure temptations on this journey with Jesus and we all have to overcome the lusts of our flesh. If King David would have turned away from looking at his beautiful naked neighbor and gone back into his bedroom, his life and the lives of those around him would have had a much different outcome! But he couldn't turn away and did not flee and the sins he committed caused him to deal with the consequences the rest of his life!

Jesus, having been tempted in all things knows how to minister to us because He knows we are weak and when we are tempted, if we would call out for help, Holy Spirit will strengthen us and allow a way of escape. This how our flesh is crucified, by the endurance of resisting temptation and by fleeing youthful lusts.

Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:14,15

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

God's throne of grace is available to the believer to find His mercy to forgive and to deliver us from lust. His amazing grace enables us to be cleansed of sin and to be restored back into fellowship with Him. To come before the Most High within the very throne room of His presence is a heavenly benefit for us to receive as His family!

Lust is a dangerous stronghold that will choke the spiritual life out of you, leaving you weak and spiritually starved. As we will see in Part III there are steps to deliverance as we examine King David's sin of adultery and how God exposed it and allowed him to be forgiven and delivered. If you are trapped in lust's seductive stronghold, imprisoned by her sensual enticements there is hope even though you have broken the law of God and sinned against Him.

The first step is to be forgiven and washed in the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. The second step, one that will take you into His mercy and grace is to repent of lust, adultery and immorality, in other words you have to make the choice to turn and walk away, never to allow your eyes to gaze into her's again! May God have mercy on you!

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:8,9
