A New Thing!
Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things I declare; before they spring forth I tell you of them. Isaiah 42:9
Isaiah was prophesying of a new thing that would suddenly spring forth and the new thing was Jesus Who inaugurated a new covenant in His blood.Today everyone is talking about a new thing showing up on the scene and yet the new thing is already here!
A new thing, a new covenant and the choice to become a new creation is here for all the world to experience, but it seems the Christian wants more out of his experience so he has reinstated the old priesthood with old rules, regulations and Jewish traditions complete with old traditions of man and tithes for the priesthood that bring us back under the law which carries a curse.
It is truly hard for man to experience freedom from the bondage of religion and even the apostles fell into the trap of trying to impose the law on the Gentile church. It is no different today, instead of living in the freedom of "The Spirit-led life" we submit to self- imposed rules and regulations that hinder the flow of the Holy Spirit and quench our God given passion of loving Jesus.
Paul told the church of Galatia, "You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?" Paul rebuked them for wanting to be under law and not under grace. Jesus has set us free from the bondage of the law and has saved us by the shedding of His blood that gives us liberty in Him!
But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. Romans 7:6
And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. Hebrews 9:15
Jesus bled seven times in seven specific places to give us a complete salvation delivering us from the curse and bondage of the law. The generational curse of sickness and sin was broken and the powers of darkness were totally defeated. To receive freedom one must appropriate that which has been done for him on the cross by confessing his sins and the sins of his unfaithful ancestors and the blood of Calvary will flow into his spirit setting him free.
At the last supper Jesus proclaimed that our communion with Him signifies the new covenant in His blood in which He was about to shed for the sins of the world. Remembering this covenant written in the Savior's blood is what the Lord's supper is all about. The church would do well to restore the "Love Feast" in it's assemblies and preach the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus in order to remember this new covenant of blood.
Remembering the covenant is more than thinking about Jesus on the cross, it involves the appropriation of those things He accomplished for us and the freedom that it brings. Freedom from sickness, deliverance from demonic strongholds, set free from the curse of the law and the bondage of sin forever, this blood covenant is for all who would dare to believe!
And you being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. So let no one judge you in food or drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Colossians 2:13-17
