A More Excellent Way, Part V

And behold a certain lawyer (expert in the law of Moses) stood up and tested Him, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" Luke 10:25

Eternal life in the Old Testament was based on the keeping of commandments, obeying the law of Moses, and sin was dealt with through the sacrifices of animals providing blood for the atonement of the people by which the High Priest would offer up to God. The lawyer was testing Jesus to see if He would say otherwise to accuse Him of heresy, but He was about to change the way of eternal life by becoming the perfect sacrifice for sin.

Jesus asked the lawyer what was written in the law and he proceeded to quote from Deuteronomy 6:5 and from Leviticus 19:18 stating that Israel was to love God with all their heart and their neighbor as themselves. Jesus answered him saying, "Do this and you will have eternal life." Salvation does not consist of praying a prayer, nor attending a service, or being good, it has to do with the heart being surrendered to God in a love relationship likened to a marriage and loving everyone else as much as we love ourselves.

In order for one to be born of the Spirit, he must submit his heart to God, confess and repent of his sins and God will wash him with the blood of His Son supernaturally and give the Holy Spirit to dwell in his heart forever! Jesus is the new and living way, fulfilling the law and saving mankind from their sins by the sacrifice He made on the cross once and for all! A more excellent way!

But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. Hebrews 10:12-14
